Sambadrome & Metropolitan Cathedral. . .

The Sambadrome is where the Carnaval parade takes place. There's a little store next to the grandstands where people can try on some of the costumes that were used for the parade. The costumes are very detailed and extravagant and very heavy. I can't imagine wearing the headpieces for more than a few minutes but the participants wear them for many hours while they perform.

Can you tell these two are related??

After the Sambadrome, we went down to Centro and visited the Metropolitan Cathedral. I just read that it has a standing-room capacity of 20,000 people. It's huge. And very beautiful. It also has a very cold feeling to it, like it's a dead church. It feels more like a tourist stop than a place of worship. The kids made it feel a little more lively:)
