Potty-training Highlights. . .

Well, we're in full-swing here at the Schrag household (OK, the hotel)!! About two weeks ago, I decided to be really intentional with teaching Emma how to use the toilet! I can't believe I'm writing this, but This is really fun!!! There have been several funny moments over the last week and I thought they were blog-worthy!

In the beginning, I wanted Emma to know it was really a great accomplishment to actually put her pee in the potty so every time she went, I'd clap and say, "Yay! Emma, you went pee in the potty!!" Now it's awfully cute when she goes and then claps for herself while saying, "Yay Emma, you went pee in the potty!"

A few days ago we were at our friend Barbara's house. Emma kept telling me she had to poop, but every time I put her on the toilet, she wouldn't go. It was getting close to lunch time so we walked outside to go to the car. We were halfway between the house and the car and Emma starting panicking. . . she had to poop. I knew the bathroom was too far away and there was no way we were going to make it. However, because Emma was telling me she had to go, I didn't want her to have to go in her diaper. I did a 2-second assessment of our surroundings, grabbed Emma, dropped her drawers and held her over the grass. She started crying and saying, "It hurts Mommy!" and I was telling her what a great job she was doing. Then, she did it!!! Emma pooped in my friend's grass. Right after she did it, she turned around and said, "Whoa, Mommy, that was a big poop!" Barbara and I were laughing so hard! It was hilarious.

Normally, when I take Emma to go potty at a restaurant or public place, I will go, too. She gets really excited for me and says, "Mommy, yay! You put your pee in the potty!"

We've always told Emma that Daddy needs his privacy, so now when he goes into the bathroom, Emma will say, "He dest needs his pivacy."
Before we left Ottumwa, I stocked up on diapers and wipes, hoping that I wouldn't have to buy a lot here. I'm so glad I did because the diapers here are about 3x the price as in the States. Emma is staying dry during the day. She's always dry after her naps, which is really exciting, and most mornings she's dry from the night! We've had the occasional poop on the floor, three times to be exact, but for the most part, we think she's doing a great job.
Now I'm looking back over this and I think, Really?? Did I just write a whole post about potty training?? Yep, hope you enjoyed it:)

It is exciting!! Great for Emma! A couple of weeks ago I almost cried I was so happy when Char pooped in the potty - she finally "got" it - and it's been smooth sailing since. Enjoy the life of not changing diapers. :) Oh,and enjoy the new car too!

I did enjoy that post...immensely! You know me and poop! Tell Emma she isn't the only one that has pooped in the grass! Great job Emma! Now let's offer Mallory some tips--she is still standing on the potty! Thanks for sharing!!!
