Itaipu Dam. . .

After we left the bird park, we decided to make a quick trip to Itaipu Dam, about 14 km (9+ miles) north of the city of Foz do Iguacu. Itaipu Dam is located on the Parana River (the world's seventh biggest river), where the borders of Parguay and Brazil meet. It is 643 feet high and 4.8 miles long. It took 18 engineers to create it, 18 years to build it (with 40,000 workers), at the cost of $18 billion!! The powerhouse consists of 20 hydroelectric generators that produce enough energy to power over 90% of Paraguay and around 20% of Brazil!!

My engineer, standing in awe of what's been built

Itaipu Dam was named one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World
There were power lines leading away from the dam, taking energy to the people of Brazil.
While we were marveling at the incredible engineering behind the building of the dam, Emma was marveling over the little caterpillar on the concrete. Oh the little things!
