I use the word "excited" quite a bit.
I'm excited to go to the park.
I'm excited for my race this weekend.
She's so excited to go swimming again.
Ooh, I'm excited to eat Italian food.
Isn't it exciting that we're going to travel tomorrow?
Kevin's been gone for a week and I am excited to see him on Saturday.
Well, thanks to my new teacher, I have learned that there are two words in the Portuguese language that mean "excited". Unfortunately, I have been using the wrong word for the past year. While empolgada means excited (and happens to be the correct word in the phrases above), I have been using the word exitada, which means horny. Sexually excited. Not just happy-to-see-you, heart-happy excited, but sexually excited!! Come on Portuguese people!! Exitada sounds so much like excited that it should be the correct word!!!!!!
Great. So for the last year I've been telling people that I'm sexually excited to be living in another country. I'm sexually excited to race on Sunday. It turns me on to eat Italian food. I'm exitada to see Kevin this weekend. (Oh wait, at least I got it right when it came to that one!)
Sheesh. Guess I'd better go study some more. Who knows what else I've been unknowingly (and confidently) saying!!
