Good grief. . . I'm finally posting these pictures, thinking that it all happened last week, when if fact, Adri is 13 months old today! Where has the last month gone??
The day after her birthday, some good friends from Ottumwa came to visit us. We've known the Derscheids for almost ten years now. I loved spending the day with them, catching up on life while all the kids played. They helped us celebrate Adri's birthday with some cake and ice cream. How the day passed without me getting a picture of them, I do not know! Grr.
The great planner I am, there was not a single candle in the house for Adri's birthday cake! A match worked just fine. I mean, she can't blow a candle out anyway! Plus, with Adri, she's so curious and quick that I could just picture her swiping her hand over the flame, just to check it out!
Side note on the cake: About a month before her birthday, a new friend at church asked if she could make Adri's birthday cake. I hadn't really thought about it at that point, so I said yes. It was a sweet gift. My friend made the small cake and four little cupcakes to go with it. Conveniently, the Derscheids had their three kids and then there was Emma.
Now, we don't give sugar to Adri. I feel like I'm trying so hard to feed her nourishing foods that junk foods and sugar don't have a place in our home for her age. I wondered how she would do with the sugary icing and white cake. I actually thought she would devour it and smile at me with triumph.
Nope, this confusing frown and picky fingers were her reaction:
We basically had to force her to taste it and even then, she wasn't fond of the new food. Can't say I was entirely disappointed! We gave her a few sticks and that was fun for her. She picked at the cake and played around with it, but devour it, she did not!
Happy 13-months, Little One!
