Valentines. . .

Oftentimes with homeschooling, I wonder if Emma's going to miss out on some of the experiences that I had in public school. I really had a great public school experience, so I wrestle with the advantages and disadvantages of both. Well, as Valentine's Day was approaching, I reminisced about decorating cards and writing my classmates' names on their candy-filled little bags. I could smell the sugary treats and wondered how I could help Emma make a fun memory this year. About two weeks before the special day, someone suggested doing a Valentine exchange after her ballet class. (Side note: Emma started a ballet class in January.) There are ten other girls in her class, so it was a perfect idea. One of the moms suggested no candy because of the amount of sugar her kids were already eating. That was kind of a bummer for me because candy is the best part about getting a Valentine. . . right?? At least as a kid, it was.
We went to Michael's and found some fun pencils and I happened to have a tiny heart punch and pink paper. With the help of Pinterest, we made some fun little gifts for her classmates. Just as we were about to seal the envelopes, I decided to add some Smarties to each gift.
Some old stamps and ink pads were put to use, and we ended up with cute, cheap valentines for the other kiddos. Emma even took time to decorate her own box.
After class was over, Emma was beaming ear to ear as she hand-delivered each Valentine. Her smile was contagious on the way home. Opening the notes from other girls was fun for her, too, but I think she actually enjoyed making and delivering them more!
