We had a great weekend with Kevin's parents and grandparents around the middle of March. They just happened to arrive on Marcy's birthday and leave on Anne's birthday, so we were able to celebrate with both of them. I found a cute store that makes giant cookies for any event and decided to get one for each of them. Honestly, they were too pretty to eat. I'm not even sure they taste all that great, but they're just so pretty!
The adults, minus myself, went to the combine factory where Kevin works and were taken on a VIP tour. They were impressed and extremely excited when they were presented with these signs after the tour was over. One of the lasers was used to cut their names and the JD logo into a piece of metal. Sounds like they all had a great time. Kids under 16 aren't allowed in the factory, so the girls and I went to downtown Moline to explore. We all met up for lunch and then had a relaxing afternoon and fun evening of watching March Madness.
Adri loves her grandpa, much like Emma did at this age!
Emma went on a date with her grandparents while they were here. She specifically asked me if she could spend some alone time with them! They all had a blast and Emma couldn't stop talking about all the fun she had!
It was the weekend before Easter, so there were some eggs hidden around the house. Emma loves hunting for hidden things and she could have searched for eggs all weekend!
Before the grandparents even came to visit, Emma had decided she wanted to put on a little program for them, sharing some of what she had learned this year. She gave a presentation on the Mississippi River, sangs several songs, quoted a few poems and verses, and showed off a few ballerina moves! I'm pretty sure she's going to be a performer. Already she has better public speaking skills than I do! She doesn't get nervous and she thinks it's so much fun to have all eyes on her! I can remember being so terrified to get in front of people when I was young! I'm still scared to get up in front of people! Fortunately, I don't have to do that very often!
Her audience:
We loved having family here! The girls were loved on very well and it was just an overall easy weekend. One memory that sticks out to me was our ladies' sewing time! I was asking for help with Emma's jeans that had holes in them and before I knew it, Marcy was patching a pair and Anne was turning a pair into shorts. I pulled out several shirts of Kevin's and began sewing buttons. Something about that afternoon was so priceless to me. I guess it reminds me of a simpler time in life, kind of a Little House on the Prairie moment. We don't live close to family, so when we do go to visit, sitting around sewing isn't usually the first thing that comes to mind! I'm sure we'd all enjoy it, but it just doesn't happen. I so enjoyed those few hours with my mother- and grandmother-in-law! Emma loved that she had patched jeans and a pair of jeans shorts!
