Spring in Iowa has to be the best! Once again, we're finding out we bought a home where the previous owners planted an insane amount of flowers and other fun plants! Our second home, the Bladensburg house, was my favorite place to live, until now. It seemed like every other day, something new would pop up and amaze me. Then we moved to Brazil where the only real plant we had was an ugly palm tree that shedded nastiness. We knew we had hostas at this house, but because we moved in at the end of August last year, we had no idea what else was planted around the house. Now I am once again amazed at what's popping up every few days! By far, the most beautiful plant here is the bleeding heart plant. I love these pretty flowers!
I never saw anything like this in northwest Kansas!!
She loves the flowers, too!
The hosta has to be my all-time favorite plant because it's so easy to take care of! I think it's impossible to kill, which is why I love it:) Every day we check on the growth of the newest hostas and we keep finding more and more poking their little heads through the ground! Here's how they start:
Then they open up just a little bit. . .
Then the leaves spread and the plant is just beautiful. Later in the summer, long stems will come out of them and flowers will appear on those stems. We also have a lot of ferns growing now. I think they grow several inches per day! Really, it's all amazing to me! I'm looking forward to seeing what other surprises are hiding below the surface, waiting to make their appearance. It seems like each plant was placed in such a way that when one is finished flowering, another one is waiting to follow suit. I love all the greenery around our house. I really love that I didn't have to plant anything and that it's already here and will come again year after year!! Oh, how I love perennials!!
