Lliving Room Project. . .

Since we had moved in, I had always disliked the red accent wall on the north end of our living room. Because Kevin's usually home more during the Christmas break, we try to plan some sort of house project. As I sat staring at the ugly red wall in early December, I made a decision. I was going to paint that wall and get rid of the dark red! I had plans to go buy the paint the following day and even knew the exact gray I was going to use! Kevin held me off with his plans, though. He has such a great mind that envisions so much more than I can even imagine. I love his talent and have learned to trust his judgment and planning. I still bought the paint, but I bought quite a bit more, knowing that I'd end up painting the whole living room/dining room/kitchen area!!
As with most projects, once we get started, we realize there will be much more to do than we originally planned! In the case of the fireplace, Kevin noticed a draft coming through a hole in the wall. As he literally dug deeper, he found the fireplace exhaust had not been properly connected to the outside. In fact, there was over an inch between the wall and the end of the exhaust. Not cool. When Kevin does a job, he does it well and doesn't cut corners. Even though it took him longer and added cost to the project, we're glad he took care of it when he did!
We had some helpers during the project as Emma Libby and Kylee, the daughters of some friends of ours, were staying with us. We loved having them here and Kevin enjoyed teaching them how to use his tools!
From scratch, Kevin measured and built bookcases on either side of the fireplace. His talent never ceases to amaze me!
Along with the built-in shelves, I was so excited about the stone on the front of the fireplace!! Our friend Heath came over and helped Kevin set the stone in place and I enjoyed watching their teamwork. It's fun to have friends help!!
Ta-Da!!!!!!!!!
We did end up putting the chair in front of the bookshelves on the left side, but it's still a great look! The wall on the left is no longer beige, but the same gray as the rest of the room. In fact, I painted the entire room gray and I love it! I did one wall at a time, so I didn't officially finish the job until the end of July!! It's done now and I am SOOOO happy! My husband is amazing. To think that I just wanted to paint?!?!
