Date Night. . .

During our week in Moundridge, I said to a friend, "I think I could get used to having the grandparents around more!!" They love her so well and they jumped at any chance they could have Emma to themselves. One night Kevin and I went to Wichita for a date. Emma barely even said, "Tchau" as we walked out the door! She was so excited to hang out with her grandparents!! We took some back roads to the west side of the city and had a long dinner at Granite City. We were appalled at the massive portion sizes of our meals, but sadly, we cleared our plates. We wandered through Target, had a late-night coffee at Border's, and then went shopping at Kohl's with a 30% coupon off our entire order!! Since I don't shop for clothing here, it was fun to go to a store and find such great deals! It wasn't exactly our idea of a really great date, but we were together, in a familiar place, in a well-known city, in our homeland, so it was a pretty good evening. Emma was in bed when we got home and we stayed up and watched part of a movie. We loved being alone and leaving Emma in the care of her grandparents.

Since before we were married, I've believed date nights are really important for a marriage. Living here has made that more difficult. Often times, instead of calling someone I don't know very well, we'll just put Emma to bed early and hang out in our living room. That, or we'll take her with us on a family date. Not quite the same, but we love having her along!! Thank you AGAIN, Robert and Marcy, for giving us an evening out!!

One afternoon, the grandparents decided to go out for a little bit. They took Emma with them and Kevin and I were alone in their home. Unfortunately, the TV was on. We haven't had cable in our home during the two years we've been in Brazil. We kept thinking we might get it, but we are so glad we chose not to. There are so many other ways to spend our time and we really haven't suffered. We can still rent movies and Emma has a few DVDs that she watches over and over again. Anyway, Kevin's parents left the house and some HGTV show was on, something about curb appeal and fixing up backyards. For an hour and a half, neither of us moved from our positions. We didn't even move to sit closer to each other; I stayed in the recliner and he stayed on the couch. How sad is that? After the third half hour show, one of us had the will power to turn it off!! I'm not sure it's such a good idea for us to get cable when we go home!! We're going to have to be re-introduced to the world of TV!!!
