Salto do Yucumã. . .

We had a holiday here in Brazil a few weeks ago, so we took a little road trip to Salto do Yucuma, a waterfall about two hours from here. The series of waterfalls are the world's widest at over 1.8 kilometers. There really was no way of knowing how high the river was, so we took a chance and drove up there. Unfortunately, if the river is high, the waterfalls aren't visible. We walked up to the water and were disappointed to see how high the river was. Bummer that we missed the falls! We went with Matt and Courtney in their car and Gwen and Jason followed in their car with their three boys, so at least we had some good company. We ate lunch, hiked up and down the edge of the river for a while, and then headed home. Maybe we'll try again after a few dry months.

Here are two pictures from our trip there back in May of 2009:

Argentina is on the other side of the river. This is the Uruguay River and it's one of the natural borders between Argentina and Brazil. Very beautiful when the water level is low.
