Back in November, the day after Thanksgiving, my family held the 2nd Annual Duell Turkey Trot. Some of my sisters, brother, in-laws, nephews and nieces joined in to run/walk the 2-mile race. Winners were given prizes. Best costume also won a prize. It was pretty awesome, I have to say.
My dad used his shotgun to start the race. That might have been the scariest part of all. I think I actually ducked right before he fired!
This is the road that goes by the house I grew up in. Not all of Kansas is flat, but where I'm from, you can see for miles in any direction. Very few trees, very few hills. It's beautiful to me. I love this dirt road! It also makes for an easy run!
Three of my sisters after the race. . .
I hadn't run in a long time, but I managed to bust out the two miles. I was in a little bit of pain for the days following, but it felt great! As I think back to that day, I'm happy that my family values health. We're all in different places with what we consider healthy, but for the most part, we value exercise, eating whole foods, taking care of our bodies, and enjoying time together. That was a fun morning.
