Celebrating the 4th of July. . .in Brazil!!

Fireworks in the sky?? Nope, just wishing for them!

I was pretty excited to find this dress in our stash of clothing. I had no idea I had packed it in our air shipment! Yay! I love this dress!

Our first 4th of July in Brasil!

We found this cake at Zelandia's, our favorite bakery! YUMMY!!

Real deviled eggs and REAL cheeseburgers!
Well, we had a very American 4th of July BBQ, minus the fireworks! It was really fun to get together with two of the other American couples here and celebrate. I was way too excited to see that Barbara had made deviled eggs. I can't remember how many I ate, but oh, were they good!! We had fruit and veggie trays and dip, all made by Holly, and I provided the cake. I think we'll always be a little homesick during the American holidays, but we are really thankful to have other Americans to celebrate with! We had a great night of getting to know each other better. Holly and Aaron are expecting their first baby in February, so we also talked a lot of baby talk! We're excited to see their lives change over the next year and I think we're all looking forward to being more comfortable here. This morning I was telling Kevin that it feels really good to know enough of the language to "get by". We both have a long way to go, but we feel like we can understand most conversations now and at least get our point across when we talk. Yay for progress! Today my homework for class is to write a few paragraphs about anything. Maybe I'll write about our weekend. . . or at least try!

Everything looks so green and beautiful there! Would love to see what Brazilians look like -can you go undercover and shoot some pictures of complete strangers for me?! :) ~Jen

Ohh yummy deviled eggs! Glad you celebrated with others! I don't think you missed too much here-heard the Ottumwa fireworks weren't anything special! :)

What's the yellow stringy stuff on the cake?
