Emma and I made it back to Brasil late Saturday night after 30 hours of traveling. Everything went surprisingly well and we are so happy to be home. After I sort through a few hundred photos, I'll share our time in the States with you.
Until then, I have a little teaching to do. Yesterday, Emma and I were heading to John Deere to pick up Kevin and another American. I told Emma that the man was going to sit next to her. I told her it's OK because he speaks English and he's American. She replied, "Mommy, I don't think I like Americans sitting next to me." I told her that was funny because she herself is an American. She said, "No I'm not." I told her I'm an American and Daddy's an American and with a confused look on her face, she started asking questions that made me realize she really didn't realize she's an American!! I can totally see how she would come to the conclusion that she's a little braseleiro, especially since she's lived here longer than the U.S. and she speaks the language about as well as her native tongue, but still. . . apparently I forgot to let her know during the last two years that she's not really a Brazilian. Some day we'll have to return to the U.S. and she'll have to learn to sit next to those crazy Americans. . . like her mom and dad!!
