Our Sitter. . .
Other than some of the Americans, Diana (pronounced Gee-ahna), was the only sitter we ever had in Brazil. Emma loved her! She was so sweet and kind and took such great care of our girls. We actually only used her six or seven times in the time we were there. She was always available when we needed her, which was so good for me. I had a really hard time leaving Emma with anyone for the first year we were there. After Diana came the first time, I was so relieved to have found someone I felt like I trusted. She gave me a recap of the whole night, giving me details of all the activities she had done with Emma; she had put Emma to bed when I asked her to (not at midnight like when most Brazilian kids go to bed); she had cleaned my whole house and washed all my dishes and she said she'd be more than happy to come back when we needed her. After Adri was born, we had two dinners that we were invited to. One of them was only a block away and it was after Adri's bedtime. I decided to put her to bed and then go to the dinner. It was so nice to have Diana there. I think Emma's favorite activity to do with Diana was having her read her all the Portuguese books we have. I can read them, but I know I have an accent and Emma prefers a native speaker to read to her. I'm just so grateful for this young woman. She loved Emma very well and we will not forget her kindness! It took a lot for me to trust a foreigner with our daughters and I'm so thankful God brought Diana into our lives!
