Losing Teeth. . .

Around the middle of August, Emma was getting ready for bed and said her mouth felt "springy". I had no idea what she meant, so I didn't really respond. The next morning, she said it again. Again, I didn't really pay any attention. The following morning, after three times, it hit me that something was probably going on her little mouth. I opened her mouth and started wiggling her teeth. Sure enough, I found a loose tooth! It hung around for another two weeks before falling out. By "falling out", I mean, she lost it. By "lost it", literally, she lost her lost tooth. Pretty sure she swallowed it. It was hanging by a thread and I was going to pull it, but forgot about it. I gave her a snack and the next thing I knew, I was looking at a tiny hole in the place of her baby tooth. I thought she had lost it and forgotten to tell me. When I shouted, "Emma, where's your tooth??" her eyes opened wide and she poked her tongue through the opening, shocked! Poor girl. Immediately tears came to her eyes and she wailed, "Now I'm not going to have a tooth to give the Tooth Fairy and she won't come!" I assured her the Tooth Fairy would still come and that her tooth would eventually exit from the other end of her body. I even promised to check. (Don't judge me.) Well, Emma wrote a note and explained what happened to the Tooth Fairy and sure enough, she was rewarded for her tooth. I explained to her that somehow the Tooth Fairy just knows these things.
Shortly before she lost her first tooth, we visited the dentist. Her new tooth was coming in behind the loose tooth. As you can see, it's not pretty. The dental hygienist showed me the x-rays and said, "Um, yes, braces will be in her future." Great. We'll start saving now! Looks like her teeth are growing in like mine did. But hey, 2+ years of braces fixed 'em right up! Well, her second tooth fell out and the new tooth is almost backwards, just like mine was when I was a kid. Oh, and she has two molars coming in. Adri got two teeth around the same time that Emma lost hers. We're all about the teeth right now. Yay.
